Thriftadelphia Look For Less.

Okay I know what you’re thinking…Lauren Conrad again. But what can I say, I love searching for clothes that embody her chic and timeless style. Lauren Conrad debuted this ensemble on June 15, 2010 at the unveiling of her national “Got Milk” advertisement. It sure has taken me long enough to replicate, but like I said before consignment shopping is all about patience!

Lauren’s Jumpsuit- Philip Lim, Lauren’s Shoes- Christian Louboutin

While finding a Philip Lim jumper as cute as Lauren’s in a South Jersey consignment shop is unlikely (but you never know!), there are plenty of other well-made brands of a similar style out there. Check out this one I found at the Greene Street Consignment Shop on South Street.

Ruffles, check. Jumper, check. The only difference is that it is black instead of blue and cost me only $17. The brand is Lucca Couture and the original tags were still in tact!

I found this woven leather belt at Plato’s Closet in Deptford. New Jersey. It is originally from Abercrombie Kids and cost me a little less than $6.

These platform sandals are by Jessica Simpson and were found at Marshalls. Even though Marshalls is not a consignment shop, it is always full of amazing deals and is usually my go-to store for discount brand-name footwear. The retail price on these babies are $90, but I paid $49.

Plato’s Closet is always featuring their sales associates in a Look For Less Outfit on their style blog. It is so easy to replicate your favorite celebrity outfits at a price that you are comfortable with, go ahead and give it a try!

Greene Street Consignment Shop

“recycling. reinvented.”

The first consignment shop featured on the blog is Green Street Consignment Shop. Greene Street Consignment has six different locations around Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey. I recently went consigning at their South Street shop in Philadelphia. I love this particular store because the setup makes for such easy shopping, the merchandise is organized on circular displays and each holds a specific item of clothing. Cashmere sweaters are on one rack, blazers on another, and so on. There is even a shoe section with gently worn (or not worn at all!) pumps, sneakers, boots, and sandals. In addition to clothing and shoes, Greene Street carries handbags, scarves, belts, and jewelry.

Some brands on sale this week at Greene Street Consignment were: Ann Taylor Loft, Neiman Marcus Cashmere, Bebe, Seven For All Mankind, J Brand Jeans (for only $28!), Paige Premium Denim ($32), Citizens of Humanity, Arden B, Free People, and BDG.

If you are looking to consign some of your old clothes, there is an associate in the back of the store who is willing to help you do so. You do not need an appointment and there is no yearly fee to sell your clothes at Greene Street! The associate simply looks through your items to make sure they follow the guidelines and hands you a receipt. Your items remain in the store for 60 days and when they sell you will receive a 40% commission check in the mail. If your items do not sell you may pick up the items at the end of the 60 day period. It really is that easy!

I left Greene Street Consignment Shop with an adorable green Nine West trench coat, a Free People embellished sweater, two pairs of J Brand Jeans, and my favorite purchase of the day—a Hero&Leander floral blouse (pictured below). I can not wait to wear my new purchases now that the weather is warmer!

Greene Street Consignment Shop is located 700 South Street Philadelphia, PA 19147.

Their hours are Monday – Wednesday: 11 – 7, Thursday: 11-8, Friday – Saturday: 11 – 9, and Sunday: 11 – 7.

Let’s Get Started: Week One of Consignment Shopping!

Now that we have been introduced, learned the basics of consignment shopping, and discovered how easy it is to budget shop; we can begin our journey around the Philadelphia area! This week we are headed to my favorite consignment shop on South Street called, Greene Street Consignment. At Greene Street Consignment I usually find brands like Club Monaco, Velvet, and many of the designers that Anthropologie carries. What I like most is that their items are always seasonal, they will not accept heavy winter-wear in February or sundresses in September. I am excited to shop here first because I have spring break on the brain and  I am hoping to find a killer outfit for my trip to the Dominican Republic. Wish me luck!
